ASIN has a third-party contribution and no retail contribution

CASE # 14413681321

I have contacted amazon support in regards to creating a variation of 3 colors of our children's sled in Vendor Central. They say they can not change the ASIN because

We see that the ASIN has a third-party contribution and no retail contribution. Therefore, our system will not allow any changes to this ASIN.

I can not find any where the describes what this means.

Can anyone help shine some light on this response?

Amazon tries to automate everything as much as they can to have consistency.

But they cannot automate everything.

You have found an incompetent Vendor Central team member.

Their argument, shown below,

We see that the ASIN has a third-party contribution and no retail contribution. Therefore, our system will not allow any changes to this ASIN.

Is confirmation that they should be able to edit the listing. If there is no retail contribution, the listing is fair game.

Re-open the case. I have one rule when contacting Vendor/Seller Support.

If you write more than one sentence, you have written too much.

You can reopen the case and write "There is no retail contribution so you can make an edit right?"
