UPS billing issue with the Remote Area Surcharge on product returns

The title says it all. Another massive blow to sellers is rolling out today!

When Amazon kicked in that insane policy on January 14th it also has now added more fees because the return was delivered to my location.

Also to note is i only had 37 returns during that period as i closed my amazon store on January 6th, today is 6 months that i closed my store and i got a bill for back then.

how can Amazon claim of 69 charges when i show only 37 refunds issued in that period.

I just received this email today as well. $812 in surcharges. The sender email looks a little fishy to me, and I have forwarded it to stop-spoofing@ amazon.com. Has anyone else found this email to be fraudulent? no-reply@sell.amazon.com

We just got hit with this as well, absolutely ridiculous the way Amazon is nickel and dimming everyone. Most of our returns were buyer faulted returns of no longer needed wanted or ordered by mistake. They have given us no order numbers to research and most have already had safe-t claims completed. Amazon gets worse and worse by the day.

I got this too. Amazon should eat this because they are the ones screwing over the merchants. Basically, the customers should have paid for these return labels, but since Amazon screwed up or UPS, they are passing it on to us. Either Amazon or UPS should own up to their mistake and write it off. But of course, big business screws over the little guys again.

Thank you for your feedback about the recent UPS Remote Area Surcharge email and update. I am collecting information from sellers about these charges and sharing it with our partner teams.

To recap: this was a one-time correction charge for return packages to or from Hawaii, Alaska, and rural areas in the 48 continental states that had a ship date between January 14 and March 4, 2023.

To be clear: this is not when the returns were requested/received or the refund issued, but for returns that had a ship date between January 14 and March 4, 2023.

I received some information about the surcharges that I am passing along: UPS Delivery Area Surcharge

  • A surcharge applies to each package delivered to certain ZIP Codes within the 48 contiguous states. For Alaska and Hawaii, refer to page 130 for the Remote Area Surcharge.
  • Refer to the Area Surcharge Listing at ups.com/rates for a listing of applicable ZIP Codes.
  • Delivery Area Surcharge does not apply to UPS Ground with Freight Pricing or UPS® Simple Rate shipments.
