Can I Transfer Inventory Between Fulfillment Centers (e.g., from Virginia to California)?

Hi everyone,

I’m a seller using Amazon FBA and I’m trying to better align our inventory with customer demand. Currently, most of our stock is stored in fulfillment centers (FCs) located in Virginia. However, our top-selling state is California, and we’re noticing longer delivery times and potential missed sales due to the distance.

Is there any way to request or initiate a transfer of inventory from the Virginia FCs to FCs located in California or the West Coast? I understand that Amazon generally controls inventory placement, but I’m wondering if there are any tools, programs, or workarounds, such as creating a removal order and then sending inventory back in, to help with regional stock optimization.

Any advice, experience, or insights from fellow sellers would be greatly appreciated!

Nope. Amazon, in their infinite wisdom knows where inventory should be stored and when. There is no work around to get them to move. YOU can create an FBM listing and ship yourself. Some customers *may* choose your FBM offer for faster delivery if you're located closer to them.

@Seller_jXLjaPCENF4fp Hello there! I'd like to share with you the FBA inbound placement help page which details the inbound placement options Sellers have when sending inventory to FBA locations.

Although you cannot dictate the specific geographical region to send inventory, you do have the ability to choose between minimal shipment splits, Amazon-optimized shipment splits, and partial shipment splits.

Thank you!
