Preferred Carrier 'Feeder Shipments': The Hidden Delay to FBA?
We’re experiencing unprecedented and lengthy LTL transit times for our Preferred Carrier shipments to FBA, and we’re reaching out to see if others are seeing the same.
Our assumption is that after pickup from our 3PL, the carrier may be transferring the shipment to another warehouse and holding it until they consolidate more cargo. Only then do they request a delivery appointment with Amazon. If true, this “feeder” process could be adding significant delays before the shipment even gets scheduled for final delivery.
Has anyone else looked into this? Are there confirmed carrier practices or timelines that explain this gap between pickup and check-in?
Any insights or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

We haven't done LTL in years, but from what I understand, Amazon will only allow full trailers on their lot.

We send LTL routinely and of course they are consolidating shipments. This is normal and expected. Budget inventory timing accordingly. We keep 45-90 days available at FBA with 6 months on hand to mitigate low inventory and storage fees as well. We budget 1.5 months for LTL from pickup to available.

This is definitely the case and probably always has been the case. They aren't going to deliver merchandise 1 pallet at a time to Amazon.
