Does "featured offer", mean "Buy Box" ?

Amazon has some nice tools to monitor my listings, in order for me to make sure I maintain the buy box.

Below is a partial screen shot, when looking at one of their SKU Central pages:

img

My interpretation of this screen is this.

I am currently priced at $35.88, and the green checkmark means I have the buy box. It also appears that I have a competitor that is slightly below me at $34.53.

However, when I browse to the catalog screen, the Buy Box is owned by the $34.53 price...NOT ME. Does anyone else use this screen much, within inventory, to monitor their product? Have you noticed this anomaly?

Basically I'm asking "What's the purpose of the green check mark" ? Or does "featured offer", not mean "the buy box" ?

When I was wholesaling, meaning selling the same item as others within the same listing. The feature offer, is the price that is most likely to win the buy box.

So are they the same? maybe, however, the buy box is located in the right hand panel, presented to the customer if if you happen to hit the feature offer at the right time, you as the seller are most likely to win the buy box.

When you private label, you no longer fight for the buy box since you own the listing and no one else can sell under that same listing.

I assume that you mean "look at the product detail page". Try this...

1) view the PDP from an "private" browser.

2) attempt to change the ship to address in Amazon before viewing the price.

Here is an example. Myself and another seller. For addresses on the East Coast, I have the buy box. I live on the East Coast. For address on the West Coast, the other seller has the buy box.

East Coast -- BB price $27.69

West Coast -- BB $27.94

Old Amazon sellers know it is the same thing. Most likely, Amazon just changed the name to make it sound more professionally and debunk the myth that your product would not sell if you didn't have it.

Yes, featured item and buy box mean the same thing- BUT- don't be fooled into thinking that having the featured offer means that all customers see your offer featured.

The days of having one nationally featured offer are long gone. The same listing can have several different offers featured based on if the customer is a prime member, and based on the customer location in relation to various shipping warehouses. The price is not the only consideration- just as important is delivery speed and seller metrics. So as a merchant fulfilled seller in Ohio, my offers that deliver in one or 2 days to Ohio and surrounding states can be higher by a bit than a competitor but still be featured to customers in those states. But customers outside that area may very well see featured offers from competitors (with good metrics) who can deliver more quickly there.

On the other hand, my non-prime offers can be 10% lower than an FBA offer, my offer shows as featured in seller central, but any prime customer sees the FBA offer as featured unless my delivery is in 1 to 2 days.

The best thing you can do is check several addresses around the country to try and figure out where you might actually be featured. Even then, that can vary by time of day.

Featured Offer checkmark I believe means featured offer eligible. IF you actually have the buy box is FAR more dynamic since there could be several people viewing an ASIN (product detail page) at the same time but because they are in different locations, each of them may see a different seller in the buy box depending on location if there are several MF offers but no FBA offers.

Remember there is also a "featured offer %" which is about the % of times your ASINs are viewed where YOU are the offer in the buy box.

Then there is the issue of if you are the only seller of the product but your buy box % is not near 100%, it means that the buy box is being suppressed on the product. As in Amazon isn't showing the price or buy now button on the PDP or search listings and the buyer would need to click on the product and then click on the more buying choices button on the right in order to see any pricing info. It sucks when this happens because most buyers don't want to do that much work.

The algorithms that make the decisions about buy box choices are a tightly held secret by amazon because they don't want sellers figuring out how to manipulate them. Primary factors seem to include; FBA or FBM, Pricing and time to delivery; but probably also include things like Product detail page accuracy/compliance, Seller Performance and feedback, product reviews, Buyer location and account type, if buyer is signed in or not, buyer past search or browsing history, And now with the whole mess of FBA low inventory fees, I wouldn't be surprised if products lower in inventory get preference in the buy box so Amazon can leverage higher fees per item shipped until it gets restocked beyond reasonable levels so that Amazon can get higher storage fees and drop the listing out of the buy box again.

Hi there @Seller_ov7tPznFfbE6R,

Amazon only uses the term Featured Offer to describe how products are displayed on detail pages. I've reviewed and based on my current understanding of the page you are using the check mark is from clicking the "Match" link which updates the price. The check mark indicates the update was successful but not if you are or are not the selected for the Featured Offer.

If you have a recent Seller Support Case on the issue I may be able to review further. Thank you for your understanding.

Great explanation. I've also noticed that my business account and my personal account can see different featured offers even when delivering to the same address.
