GTIN exception confusion

I'm trying to sell bulk products made by Printify. During the Printify-side integration with Amazon, there's a button that says "I have requested the GTIN exepmtion" that you need to click before going forward. However, on the Amazon side, I don't see any way to request a GTIN exemption. Printify's documentation says "To apply for an exemption, go to Amazon Catalog, select Add Products and click “I’m Adding a product not sold on Amazon.”" However, in the Amazon Catalog, there's no button for "I'm Adding a product not sold on Amazon." There IS a GTIN "learn more" page on Amazon, but I don't see any way to request the exemption. Amazon's instructions say to add a product, but I don't have one, as they're all on Printify. Anyway, it's super confusing. Anyone know how to get started?

Hi @Seller_0I0osvjxTgsVq,

I understand the confusion with the GTIN exemption process while working with Printify. Let me help explain the current Amazon process.

The most important thing to note is that you'll need actual product photos before you can apply for the exemption. According to Amazon's help page on GTIN exemptions, under "Before you request a GTIN exemption," you need "real-world pictures of the products, meaning that the product and packaging can be held or placed on a table while you capture the image. Not computer generated, and free of digital enhancements."

Here's what the process looks like once you have your product samples:

Go to Catalog > Add Products, then:

Enter your product title in the search bar

  • Fill in the Product Identity section with your product details
  • Check "I don't have a product ID"
  • Click Next
  • If an exemption is needed, you'll see an "Apply now" button

You'll find these steps in the "Request a GTIN exemption" section of the help page I linked above.

One important tip: After you get approval, wait 30 minutes before trying to list your products. Also, when you do list them, make sure to enter the Category and Brand name exactly as shown in your approval notice - even small differences like extra spaces can cause issues.

I know this might not be the ideal workflow with Printify, but unfortunately the photos are a required part of the exemption process. You might want to order samples first so you can take the needed photos.

Hope this helps clarify things!
