Amazon paying claim a to z 4 months after purchase and paying $400 more to customer

My client made a purchase in July of this year, supposedly the item was defective. He never returned the item and recently filed a claim, Amazon paid not only the value of the product but also an additional $406 to the customer. I appealed and in less than 3 minutes my appeal was answered with an automatic message about another issue and not about what I claimed. Amazon's return policy is clear. What security do we have in selling if the customer can file a claim 4 months later and still receive $400 in addition to the value of his purchase? Please can a moderator help me?

The A-Z window is open for, I believe, 90 days from date of delivery.

Did Amazon give you a reason for approving the A-Z claim? Did you not respond on time?

We had one where customer swapped item out with opened used product with other sellers labels pealed off items packaging where filed safe-T claim and got our money back even reported customer to amazon for abuse then close to 60 days Atoz was filed and it was for double the original cost of the order shows you how crappy this platform really is the leader we all though was Amazon is just smoke and mirrors amazon now seems to copy Walmart on everything instead of lead the way creating the path.
