IMPORTANT: Amazon has silently auto-enabled automatic handling time THIS WEEK

I'm a regular forum reader, but somehow missed this "announcement" (if you can call it that). We've all been dealing with all sorts of Amazon handling time issues, so I know I've been to the handling time settings pages many times in the last months without seeing automated handling time. We recently had an order placed with 4 day lead time but with 2 days to ship (which should have been 1, given our settings as Amazon stepped on them), and I discovered this (which was enabled):

img

1. We never received the "Your account has been selected for Automated Handling Time" notification. This happened Thursday mid-day, so it's clearly not that Amazon swapped all accounts at once, so they may change YOUR account in the future with no notification (i.e. the headline here is if this hasn't bitten you in the backside yet, expect to be bitten at some random time in the future).

2. I have entered my handling time for a reason. Amazon keeps doing everything they can to step on it, then punishing me if I ship 1 in 20 orders past their made-up handling time. JUST STOP, please. I know how to run my business better than you do, Amazon (until such time as you take all of my business from me, at which point you can do whatever you want with your anti-trust-iness).

3. This in NO WAY meets the 15 day advance notice requirement to changes in how MY account functions. Someone show me where this was disclosed for MY account, rather than 'we may do this at some time in the future'. Is a forum post "disclosure", given that participation in the fora is optional (and Amazon has done everything they can to drive people to an off-site forum)? I doubt it.

Here's where changes to policy should be announced (and this one is not):

https://sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/QHQGBTD7XB7EECN

https://sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/47071

Even if you pretend a news post would suffice, this is the most recent one I see about handling time, and it's n/a here:

https://sellercentral.amazon.com/gp/headlines.html?id=G8582YC5ED7EXGPM&ref=nslp_at_67_G8582YC5ED7EXGPM_en-US_ttl_rf_recent_news_68

This is more to warn other sellers that this is happening, and to point out that the TOS isn't worth the paper it's wiped on. Responses of "we work 24/7/365 and ship the same day" or "you should use FBA" will not be appreciated (but they will be inevitable!). Thanks, all.

Sadly, Amazon obviously doesn't care what we think. They are proud of how many people came to visit the forum (AS THEY POSTED LIKE IT'S A GREAT THING), they don't even realize that they are proud of :

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE DESPERATE FOR HELP FLOODING TO THE FORUM BECAUSE AMAZON IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER HURT THEIR BUSINESS AND SUPPORT WOULDN'T HELP, JUST TO FIND THE MODS HERE WONT HELP EITHER OR NOT RESPOND TO TIME SENSITIVE POST UNTIL 1 OR 3 WEEKS LATER

We got an email enrolling us for this so-called "promise optimization", based on our delivery record. Apparently Amazon thinks it's better to over-promise, even though we're already cutting it close with 1 day handling and 5-8 days media mail. There was a button for opting out, which I tried to use, but it asked for more info, so I was afraid it might be a scam.

I opened a case with seller support asking them to opt us out. I got a couple of emails from them. They apparently have no idea what this is & made me send a copy of the original email. They still haven't resolved it. I think the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing at Amazon.

After turning off this feature; Amazon overrode our actual handling times submitted; and tacked on an extra 3 days; which we do not need. It lost us most of our daily orders. Think it's time to take our talents else-ware folks.

We were "advised" (translation: warned - at least of of us lucky ones - by mistake maybe?) last year this was going to happen. Amazon styled it as "doing us a favor". Hey Amazon - NO MORE favors - ever.

We had to spend weeks manually resetting every listing. Until the next "favor" Amazon does for us.

i know how to run my business, i certainly don't need amazon to 'optimize' it for me. if i fail in their overcommitment on my behalf, they mark that up as a fail by me - not them.... IF I FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE WITH MORE HANDLING TIME, AND THEN FULFILL AHEAD OF THAT - THAT'S MY DECISION, NOT AMAZON'S. amazon should stick to worrying about handling times of products from their warehouses and leave me and my warehouse to make our own decisions..

Rather than voicing this to imply "something sellers chose to do", how about phrasing it more accurately as "if Amazon silently set this bit against your wishes, after failing to provide proper contractually-required notice of this 'feature' ":
