Why so many generic listings on Amazon?

Can Amazon change a listing from generic that shows a brand in the title and brand is listed? It seems when you contact amazon support they say yes you cannot list because the listing has a brand listed in the title therefore you cannot list as generic. Then I say yes the listing looks to me that it should not be generic. Then they say any thing else I can help you with? Well can you change the listing to not be generic? They say NO. OK so amazon cannot change a listing? This is so frustrating.

Yes you are right. This is a big problem on Amazon. There are a lot of "Generic" listing that show and mention a brand in the title, the picture and the description. This is against the TOS and I am wondering why Amazon doesn't send an aggressive bot to chase them.

@Connor_Amazon could you please forward this problem to a higher level? If Amazon wants to allow this, they just have to change the TOS. If they don't want to allow this, why arent't those listings taken down immediately?

I wanted to provide you with a detailed response but Amazon has decided that speaking about IP violations leads to "This post contains inappropriate language".

Can you not apply for permission to list under the proper manufacturer and just ignore the generics?

Amazon will not change a "Generic" listing to a Brand. They will tell you to create a new listing for your brand. (meaning anyone that has a trademark, not just you)

It is crappy because I had to go through this when I was first starting.

Know that whatever listing that you create as generic before you start the process for a trademark will never be able to be changed.

Now this is 4 years ago so maybe Amazon changed the rules since then...

The best thing to do is contact the owner of the brand and let them know what is going on. They can kill the listing. If you do not have an LOA from the manufacturer, then you cannot list it either.

gating everything with no rhyme or reason has led to this and countless straight up counterfeit items replacing the authentic ones. I've tried to explain this to no avail.

Hi there @Seller_TWnW8floVL2KP,

I apologize but per Amazon policy a product's Brand, including status as Generic, should not be changed. You can see more about this in the Detail Page Rules:

Any major Brand Name change requests are considered re-branding and will not be supported. To protect Customer trust and ensure catalog quality, we ask that you create a new ASIN for the new product.

You will need to make a new ASIN for the product and list the product with the correct Brand. Thank you for your understanding.

I sell generic products, yet other people just show up and they edit a brand on it. Then if I'm unlucky, they report me and hijack my listing. And Amazon won't help at all, even though it's obvious what's happened. Dang like 80% of my generic listings show a brand name somewhere. Why? Who edited those brand names into my listing? Why Amazon did let it happen? Who knows. No one would solve the issue and it would mentally kill me to contact Amazon for like 200 products one by one, telling them the Brand is wrong and it's a generic product. There is no way that they would help, also, there is no way I could do this for 200 products, spending a day on each. The site became ridiculously messy, hijackers everywhere, they edit pages just like that, add and delete things, yet the person who actually listed the products are blocked from changing the listings. Makes no sense. Having a Trademark violation because of the very same issue. Amazon won't help, no explanation. They just won't.

That is a very good question.

1. Generic products are made for a special purpose. They are made for retailers to purchase, add their brand name upon, add their Company UPC, and sell then as their own.

2. Sellers who simply sell the product as is, without personally branding them, are simply looking for a quick buck. The problem is the sellers who do not label the product soon find out there are 100 others trying to sell the same product, and no one is making any profit.
