Pet Food and Pet Supplement

Important: All pet food and pet supplement listed on the Amazon Marketplace must comply with the manufacturing standards, Ingredient standards, labeling and packaging standards required by the Law Concerning Ensuring the Safety of Feeds for Pet Cancer Animals (Pet Food Safety Law).

What is Pet Food and Pet Supplement?

Pet Foods and Pet Supplements are defined foods that dogs and cats eat, such as snacks, gums, supplements, and mineral water, in addition to general nutritional foods and general foods, and are not veterinary drugs. These are products that contain dry pet foods, canned pet foods, and vacuum-packed pet foods. However, it is not limited to these. Products manufactured overseas are also eligible.

Requirements for listing Pet Food and Pet Supplement

In Japan, the manufacturing method, labeling, ingredient standards, etc. of pet foods and pet supplements are regulated by the Act on Ensuring the Safety of Feeds for Pet Cancer Animals. Manufacturing standards, labeling standards, and ingredient standards for safe pet foods and pet supplements have been established, and the manufacture, import, or sale of pet foods and pet supplements that do not meet the standards is prohibited. In this policy, we mainly target compliance with pet food and pet supplement ingredient standards, and pet food and pet supplement importers or manufacturers submitting business notifications.

Amazon requires you to provide the following documentations when listing pet food and pet supplement.

  • Analysis certificate (CoA) that can confirm compliance with the ingredient standards for pet food and pet supplement.
  • Business notification form of pet food and pet supplement manufacturer or importer.

Note: Please submit a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) for each pet food or pet supplement that is planned to be sold or is on sale.
  1. A Certificate of Analysis (CoA) must contain the following information:
    1. Product name.
    2. Inspection results that can be checked for conformity with ingredient standards.
  2. Additional a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) requirements:
    1. CoA submitted to Amazon must have been issued within the past three year.
    2. Laboratory test results of expired product will not be accepted.
    3. CoA documents should be in Portable Document Format (.pdf).

Can a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) be inspected in any laboratory?

We require that the laboratory designated by the Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare (registered inspection agency) or currently holds an ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation. The test results must be from a laboratory that is well-suited for testing and measurement.

What kind of description is required for CoA?

The CoA must contain test results that each substance specified in the safety standards for pet foods and pet supplements is below the standard values.

Is it necessary to submit a business notification even though it is not a product manufactured in-house?

Directly or via the business partner, please check whether the pet food and pet supplement manufactures and importers has submitted a business notification, and submit a copy of the business notification obtained by the manufactures and importers.

I received a notification about the suspension of listing, and only the ASINXXXXXX was mentioned in the notification. Is it necessary to suspend the listing of other products as well?

It is basically unnecessary. If you list multiple products, not all products will be suspended. However, if you have listed very similar items, but only some of them are listed in the email, please kindly reply with the content containing that information.
