Your consumption tax obligation status in Japan

Your consumption tax obligation status is set during the amazon seller registration process. The initial settings for professional sellers will automatically be set to tax obligated, and for individual sellers will be set to not tax obligated. Please change the setting depending on your tax status. You can update this setting on the Consumption Tax Settings page at any time.

Amazon starts calculating consumption tax based on tax inclusive price and product tax code set by sellers from October 1st, 2019, regardless of your consumption tax obligation status in Japan. Calculated tax amount is used for purposes below:

  1. Tax exclusive price, tax rate, tax inclusive price are displayed on invoices for customers issued by Amazon. Customers can download invoices from order history.
  2. We calculate and display tax exclusive and tax inclusive price to Amazon Business customers on your offers, quotation and invoices. Amazon Business customers can download quotation and invoices from Amazon business website.

Ship from address

Your ship from address is initially set as the primary address provided at the time of account registration. You can change your ship from address by either updating the ship from address within your shipping settings, or the Consumption Tax Settings page. The primary address can be different from the ship from address. Your ship from address is displayed on invoices for customers issued by Amazon. You cannot change ship from address on an offer by offer.

Your account level default product tax code

Your account level default product tax code is initially set during the amazon seller registration process as “Always taxable at the standard rate (Attribute: A_GEN_STANDARD)”. Account level default product tax code will apply to all offers that you do not set an offer level product tax code. An offer level product tax code overwrites an account level default product tax code. For example, even when you set “Always taxable at the standard rate (Attribute: A_GEN_STANDARD)” as your account level default product tax code, you can apply reduced tax rate to your offer by setting an offer level product tax code of “A_GEN_REDUCED”.
