The FBA returns processing fee applies to customer-returned products sold on Amazon in categories for which Amazon offers free return shipping, including:
Offering free returns to customers in these categories helps build customer trust and encourages purchases. To better reflect our costs, when customers receive free return shipping for 30 days on products in these categories, the seller will be charged a fee for each unit returned. This fee will be equivalent to the fulfillment fees for an individually shipped unit. The fee will apply to all customer returns in the above categories, except in cases where Amazon takes responsibility for damage or loss of a returned product (for example, lost or broken in transit).
See this page for FBA fees and rate structure.
The Returns Processing Fee will be equivalent to total fulfillment fee per unit. This fee will only apply to units actually returned by customers and only for products sold on Amazon in selected categories for which we offer free customer return shipping. When calculating the Returns Processing Fee, we assume a single unit per shipment. In addition, multiple products that are returned at once will be subject to the Returns Processing Fee. The fee will apply to all customer returns in the above categories, except in cases where Amazon takes responsibility for damage or loss of a returned product (for example, lost or broken in transit).
Please note that in cases where multiple units have been shipped to a customer in a single order, the Returns Processing Fee paid on a single unit may be higher than the fulfillment fees. This can occur because we assume a single unit per shipment when calculating the Returns Processing Fee.
You can use the Returns report in Seller Central to look up your historical returns, and our fee calculations above to determine the expected fee per unit. As noted above, the Returns Processing Fee only applies to returns in certain categories.
When Amazon issues a free customer return on a unit in the categories listed above, and Amazon receives that product, the seller will be assessed a fee against their account listed as a Returns Processing Fee. In the case where Amazon takes responsibility for the loss or damage to a returned product (for example, lost or broken in transit), the fee will not be assessed.
