  • The use of false product identification information in product detail pages is also prohibited.
  • When creating a product detail page, provide only information that pertains to the features of the product in general. Product detail pages may be used by any other seller to list the same product. When listing an item other than new products, sellers are provided with an opportunity to note their item's condition, and other item-specific details that are relevant to a specific listing.
  • When you create a product detail page using the "Add a Product" feature, do not include HTML, DHTML, Java, scripts, or other types of executables in your detail pages.

The product name should have the product's official name including its manufacturer, brand name, specifications, and model. As the product name registration rules are defined by category, please refer to Inventory File Templates for Add a Product rules. Also please refer to "Important Notes for Each Store When Adding a Product."

  • Certain words are not allowed to be included in the title, such as sale, off rate, cheap, free shipping, limited reservation, arrival date, or season.

Reference price settings

In general, the website shows two types of pricing. The one with the strikethrough notation is the "reference price," and the other is the "price." If only one price is displayed, it will be the "price."

Unless otherwise stated, the price displayed in the "list price" column on the website is the price widely advertised to consumers by the manufacturer, wholesaler, etc. (the price displayed on product packaging, in catalogs, etc., and that is generally referred to as the "manufacturer's suggested retail price") or the price widely communicated to retailers (generally referred to as "recommended retail price"), and must be the latest price. In addition, price such as those set forth below cannot be displayed as the "list price":

  • Any price in the case where the manufacturer, wholesaler, etc. has not designated the prices described above.
  • Price specially offered to only a portion of the retailers that are selling the product.
  • Past or future sale price.
  • Price of a product that is not the exact same product as the listed product.
  • In the case of a retailer's private brand product, any price that is designated by the retailer.
  • In the case of a product that is exclusively sold by a manufacturer, wholesaler, etc. directly to consumers, any price that is designated by the manufacturer, wholesaler, etc.
  • In the case of a products that is exclusively sold by a particular retailer, any price that is designated by the manufacturer, wholesaler, etc. in response to a request by the retailer.
  • Any price other than those listed above that is not permitted to be used as a reference price, or may be considered as misleading, pursuant to the Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations or any other applicable law or regulation.
  • Any other price which Amazon determines in its discretion to be inappropriate for display on the website.

If an improper listing is discovered, we may take measures which we determine as appropriate including the removal of the product page , suspension of your account, or termination of your account.

Check the following when displaying the reference price based on the guideline above.

Display the price widely advertised to consumers as the list price

  • A price indication that consumers can see (such as a price indicated in numerals) is printed on the product packaging or product itself. Regarding products for which a long period has passed since their production, such as inventory items, list prices may have been eliminated by the manufacturers or others. Make sure to check the validity of the prices with the manufacturers or others concerned.
  • This is the price published online and in manufacturer catalogs, brochures, newspaper advertisements, etc., which consumers can readily obtain. For catalogs and other media, confirm that the latest edition is being used.
  • The "list price" has to be a tax-inclusive amount.

If displaying the price widely communicated to retailers (manufacturer's expected market price, manufacturer's recommended retail price, etc.) as the list price

  • Obtain documentation (documentation stating the price, such as a manufacturer's catalog, brochure or website) from the manufacturer, wholesaler or other source to confirm that the price is that widely presented to Amazon as well as retailers in general, including store records.

Confirmation of the above is required to prepare for any inquiries received from the Consumer Affairs Agency or other third party.

Sale price settings

You may set any price as the non-sale price of your item. If you wish to appeal price discount by setting a sale price, please comply with the following rules:

  • You cannot set any sale price for any items that you have not sold on our site for more than 2 weeks immediately prior to setting the sale price.
  • Unless we provide otherwise, the period for which you can set the sale price (from the sale start date until the sale end date) must be no longer than 1 month.
  • If you wish to set a sale price for an item that was previously on sale, you must have sufficient interval period between the sale periods in compliance with applicable laws (including the Act Against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations. The same applies below).
  • The price that is set as the sale price must comply with applicable laws. For example, setting a price that is equal to or higher than the price set as the non-sale price or list price immediately prior to the sale may violate applicable laws.
  • In addition, the prices set as the non-sale price and list price when the sale price is set must comply with applicable laws. For example, setting a non-sale price or list price that is higher than those prices immediately prior to the sale, or setting a non-sale price or list price that has no basis may violate applicable laws.

If an improper listing is discovered, we may take measures which we determine as appropriate including the removal of the product page, suspension of your account, or termination of your account.

Release date for pre-order product

If selling an item for which the manufacturer has set a release date, enter the date as the product release date when listing the item. Do not use the expected stock arrival date for out-of-stock products. If selling an item that has already been distributed on the market and for which the manufacturer has set a re-release date, enter the date as the product release date when listing the item.

When setting the release date, state the following in condition comments: "Planned to be re-released by the manufacturer on MM DD." If the release date set by the manufacturer is not specific, such as "MM 20xx" or "start of MM," set the product release date in accordance with the following rules:

  • MM 20xx: Final day of that month (E.g., October 2015 = October 31, 2015)
  • Start of MM = 10th of that month (E.g., Start of October = October 10)
  • Middle of MM = 20th of that month (E.g., Middle of October = October 20)
  • End of MM = Final day of that month (E.g., End of October = October 31, End of February = February 28)

Expected stock arrival date for out-of-stock item

If an out-of-stock item that is generally available on the market will be in stock within the next 30 days, set its expected arrival date. When doing so, do not use the item launch date. Note that advance orders cannot be accepted for items with scheduled arrival dates more than 30 days away. Use when 30 or fewer days remain until the scheduled arrival date.

Product information launch date

If a product information launch date is defined by the manufacturer, you are required to restrict buyers from viewing the product information prior to the launch date. Specify the launch date in the "launch-date" column in the inventory file or the "Product Launch Date" field on the website. Be sure to follow the above rules. It is prohibited to exhibit products before the product information ban removal date specified by the manufacturer or other entity.

However, the above "keyword" registration rules are not applicable to PC software categories.

Coupons and fliers

If including alongside the product an item in printed form, such as a coupon or flyer that is a purchase benefit related to the Amazon sales process, the item should be displayed on the existing Product Detail Page. If you want to explain the benefit to purchasers, use the promotion features and condition note. Displaying the benefit content in the product name, product description, or product specifications is prohibited. Note that promotions whose purpose is to divert purchasers from the Amazon sales process are prohibited. Regarding prohibitions, check prohibited seller activities and acts, as well as areas for compliance. For prohibitions, see Prohibited seller activities and actions.

Free gifts with purchase

Display gifts or purchase benefits on the existing Product Detail Page. If you want to explain the gift or benefit to purchasers, use the condition note. Displaying this information in the product description or product specifications is prohibited. In addition, when offering a gift (gift attached to product), make sure to comply with the following, as this applies to a "general gift."

  • If the transaction price is less than or equal to 1000 JPY, the gift must be valued at less than or equal to 200 JPY.
  • If the transaction price is greater than 1000 JPY, the gift must be valued at less than or equal to 20% of the transaction price. (If the gift is not for sale, the expected market price should be calculated.)

Compliance with laws regarding the provision of premiums: If providing a premium, you must comply with the restrictions on premium value and other stipulations, as set forth in the Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations Act (Premiums Act). The seller is responsible for checking the Premiums Act, as well as applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and related notices, and ensuring compliance with them. Refer to the following websites for details:

Product samples

Product samples may be provided with the product itself without setting a price. In such cases, make sure to enter the listing in accordance with the gift guidelines. Also, note that the resale of samples distributed by manufacturers for promotional purposes is prohibited.

Example: Shipment of two samples in addition to a 24 x 2L OO oolong tea set, creating a case of 26 pieces. The product name is "24 x 2L OO oolong tea set." Mention the inclusion of the sample in the promotional features and condition note. Displaying this information in the product description or product specifications is prohibited.

Also, note that the following example is prohibited, as they may involve sample resale. The product name is "24 x 2L of OO oolong tea set;" however, the actual product consists of 20 units, and the remaining 4 units are samples. In this case, listing is prohibited because the sample products are not mentioned, and the sample products are included in the number of units of the product.

Lucky bags

Listing Lucky Bags

When you list lucky bags in the Clothing & Accessories, Jewelry, Shoes & Bags, or Watches stores, a new product detail page should be created separate from the separately-sold product.

Guideline for Media Seller Exclusive ASINs

ITEM NAME: Sellers are allowed to list seller Exclusive ASINs, which are officially approved by Brand Owners/Makers and Publishers, with seller name and exclusive reward, separately from normal/non-exclusive ASINs.

In this case, sellers must clearly appeal 1) seller exclusiveness 2) customer reward on item name. In case of JAN/UPC duplication to existing ASIN, sellers are able to create new ASINs by following UPC exemption process, however, sellers will be required certification which are published by Brand owners or makers.

In addition, it is prohibited to create non-authorized seller exclusive ASINs or the ASINs which violate Amazon policy/copyright or 3rd party rights. Amazon may suppress those ASINs when detected.

Criteria of calendar products offering

Currently, Calendar products (wall calendars, desk calendar and page-a-day calendar) can be sold in both Books and Office Products stores. As it has been difficult for merchants to determine in which stores they should offer calendar products, recently we have made the criteria of calendar products offering. We ask you to offer calendar products with an ISBN code (without a JAN code) in Books store. Also, please offer the products with a JAN code or those without any product codes in Office Products store. Sellers have to start product registration based on this criteria when they offer 2016 calendar products, which started to be sold in 2015.

With a JAN code Without a JAN code
With an ISBN code Office Products Books
Without and ISBN code Office Products Office Products

Prepaid cards

If selling a physical prepaid card, the card must be shipped to the purchaser. The use of telecommunications (email, etc.) to ship a code number separately is prohibited. In addition, stating on the product detail page that a code number can be issued is prohibited for physical prepaid cards.

Products that Amazon determines might be used for converting unused credit card credit limits into cash or money-laundering.

The seller can enter a quantity that can be shipped as an option; however, in the case of multiple listings of the same product, listings must be made in accordance with the following guidelines. For multiple listings of products that have the same condition (for products other than books, music, video, and DVDs, excluding used products), enter the inventory volume in the quantity information column. Electronics

You can list only white ROM products. In the product title, specify "SIM lock released" for products in which the SIM lock has been released, or "SIM lock not released" for products in which the SIM lock has not been released.

Computers

To avoid potential drawbacks for our customers, there are cases in which you may not be allowed to list radio equipment products that are sold outside of Japan on Amazon.co.jp. When radio equipment is used in Japan, the product is required to obtain technical standards conformity certification based on the Japan Radio Act. Products sold outside of Japan might not obtain technical standards conformity certification based on the Japan Radio Act, and if a product that has not obtained the certification is used, it may conflict with applicable laws and regulations such as the Radio Act. Therefore, if Amazon judges that a product conflicts with applicable laws and regulations, the product may be removed from listing on the Amazon.co.jp site with or without prior notification. (One example so far of such a product is iPad products.)

Home (Furniture/Interior/Kitchen)

The transfer (selling) or acquisition (buying) of nuclear fuel material is basically limited to refining activity licensees, fabricating, or enrichment activity licensees, reactor operation licensees, reprocessing activity licensees, radioactive waste disposal or storage licensees, or users defined by the Nuclear Reactor Regulation Law. When nuclear fuel material is mounted on a radiation measurement instrument as a calibration source, depending on the fuel on board, the seller and the buyer are required to have obtained authorization for handling nuclear fuel material by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, based on "Article 52 of the Nuclear Reactor Regulation Law" and "Article 61 of the Nuclear Reactor Regulation Law (Authorization of the Use of Nuclear Fuel Material)." Therefore, when you list a product on which nuclear fuel material is mounted, be sure to specify the information regarding authorization under the applicable laws and regulations in the seller's profile field and the seller's comment field of the target product.

If Amazon finds that a radiation measurement instrument on which nuclear fuel material is mounted is being sold without a description of important matters regarding authorization, Amazon may remove the product listing or remove the product detail page and suspend your seller account without prior notification.

Home Appliances

Parallel imported water purifier related products are not necessarily manufactured in accordance with the laws and regulations of Japan. Therefore, you must comply with the following rules when you list parallel imported products. If the following criteria are not satisfied, Amazon may judge the product to be illegal or in violation of the contract and prohibit the product from being listed on our site. Even if only one of the criteria is not satisfied, you may not list the product in the same catalog. Please note that you may be subject to a penalty such as suspension of your seller account if you fail to comply with even one of the following criteria only.

You are not allowed to sell the product unless it has passed the household appliance water purifier test (JIS S3201) ("JIS Standard"), and unless you include the required description defined by the water purifier section in the "Guidelines for Household Goods Quality Labeling Act." For more information, go to the Consumer Agency's Homepage > Household Goods Quality Labeling Act > Labeling Guidance by Product, List of Miscellaneous Industrial Products > 30. Water purifiers: http://www.caa.go.jp/hinpyo/guide/zakka/zakka_34.html.

  1. If the removal efficiency of the product's water purification capacity is less than 80%, it conflicts with Household Goods Quality Labeling Act, and it is not allowed to be sold.
  2. Regularly distributed products and parallel imported products do not necessarily exhibit the same test results. Therefore, you are not allowed to include a description that is mainly copied from a product manufactured for the domestic market and regularly distributed through authorized distributors.
  3. In addition to complying with (1) and (2), create a "product summary & specifications" field in the catalog on our site and clarify the following points. If there is a difference in one of the following quality factors, you may not list the product in the same catalog and you must create a separate catalog.
    • Include [parallel imported product] at the head of the product name.
    • Clarify the following points in "Key Product Features" in the catalog:
      • This is a parallel imported product. The quality is different from a regularly distributed product in Japan in terms of the following points. Our company's quality indication is as follows:

        • Type of filter media
        • Flow filtration
        • Minimum dynamic pressure available
        • Water purification capacity (If its removal efficiency is less than 80%, it is not allowed to be sold)
        • Collection rate (This is only required with reverse osmosis membrane type filter material)
        • Estimated filter material replacement time (There are cases in which the materials to be removed are different from those of a product manufactured for the Japanese market. Therefore, the estimated replacement time may be different)
        • Instructions and directions for use
      • A warranty by an authorized distributor is not provided for this product. Please contact the person or company displayed on the product regarding this product.

The sale of products that are not approved or licensed for sale in Japan is prohibited. Please refer to Approval or Licensing: on Prohibited Content.
