For most categories, you are required to associate your products with industry-standard product identifiers to create new product pages and offer listings on Amazon. These IDs help ensure product page accuracy by matching listings to products that already exist in the Amazon catalog.
Product IDs are part of a system of unique identifiers called GTINs, or Global Trade Item Numbers. The following are the most common GTINs used to create Amazon catalog pages:
A UPC is a standard product identifier to help you sell your product.
An ISBN is a product identifier used specifically for books, and is usually associated with a publication date.
An EAN is a type of product identifier used specifically for products for the European marketplace. This product identifier is also referred to as an international article number.
A JAN is a type of product identifier used specifically for products for the Japanese marketplace. This product identifier is also referred to as an international article number.
Product IDs are different from Amazon Standard Identification Numbers (ASINs) because they are used by many systems outside of Amazon.
To find a product ID:
ISBN: Contains 10 digits or 13 digits. For 10 digits, include the letter X if the ISBN ends with that letter. You may include hyphens (-) when entering these numbers into Amazon search boxes but don't include hyphens in the Book Loader or Inventory Loader "product-id" field. ISBNs are located above the bar code. ISBN-10 is used as ASIN for Books. |

UPC: Contains 12 digits. Include the digits on the left and right sides of the bar code. When entering a UPC, be sure to include the smaller numbers on the left and right sides of the bar code. UPCs are found below the bar code. |

EAN and JAN: Contains 13 digits. When entering an EAN/JAN, don't include spaces or dashes between any of the 13 digits in the number. EAN/JAN s are found below the bar code. |

GTIN-14: Contains 14 digits. When entering a GTIN-14, include the last 14 numbers in the string and don't include spaces between any of the 14 digits in the number. |

If you have the product ID, you can use the Add a Product tool:
If your product is a bundle or a pack, make sure to add the correct product ID for that pack and item quantity rather than the product ID for a single item contained in the pack. To learn more, see Product IDs for Pack and Bundles.
